Durbeen has partnered with the Government of Sindh to transform the Government Elementary College of [Teacher] Education (GECE), Hussainabad campus in Karachi.

The key objectives for this partnership are as follows:

Infrastructure

Revitalise the GECE campus through the provision of modern facilities and beautiful landscapes to attract capable students.

Administration

Improve the administration of the GECE for better management and coordination of academic activities at the College.

Academics

Raise the standard of teacher education to graduate teachers who can teach and assess 21st century knowledge and skills.

GECE’s campus has been designed to create green and welcoming indoor and outdoor environments. Landscaped courtyards, verandahs and platforms connect with naturally lit and ventilated classrooms and social spaces.

Administration

Durbeen has taken a number of steps to improve the administration of the College. Both our academic and administrative function is fully deployed on Microsoft Office 365 and all faculty, staff and students have personal Office accounts. Durbeen has also subscribed to a digital attendance management system to ensure regular student attendance in all courses.

Academics

Durbeen will improve the standard of teacher education at the GECE to graduate teachers who can teach and assess 21st century knowledge and skills. The quality of education at the GECE will rest on 3 core pillars –
1. Curriculum: Durbeen has partnered with the University of Helsinki in Finland to revamp the B.Ed. (Elementary) degree program and develop the capacity of the GECE faculty.

2. Faculty: In addition to the Government faculty, Durbeen will hire faculty from the private sector with professional degrees in teaching and related specializations as well as teaching experience.
3. Students: Durbeen will run recruitment campaigns targeted at reputable Intermediate Colleges and A-levels schools to attract capable and passionate students into the teaching profession.
